Designing Learner-Centered Trainings for Conflict Transformation

SKILLS INSTITUTE | 1 CREDIT

Skills institutes are one-credit courses offered in an online format or as part of the required in-person immersion at MAIR online. Skills institute offerings are subject to change each term.

This course examines the principles and practices behind learner-centered design for those designing and facilitating training or education for conflict transformation. The course focuses on designing training and educational events using principles of dialogue education. Participants use a “seven steps of planning” framework for designing “learner-centered” tasks. The framework accounts for different learning styles and considers the varied purposes behind learning tasks. Participants examine the power of group-based learning to bring about behavioral change. The class fosters a creative, lively, and collaborative environment, and students develop skills for facilitation, understand in-group dynamics and examine impact.
