Scholarship Eligibility
American University’s School of International Service offers tuition scholarships each cohort for students admitted to either the online Master of Arts in International Relations or the online Master of International Service. Our admissions counselors are available to answer questions on scholarship opportunities and assist you throughout the entire process.
American University’s School of International Service has tuition scholarships of up to $20K available to students who are accepted and enrolled into the upcoming cohort. Contact your admissions counselor for more information.
IR Online Federal Service Scholarship – 50% Tuition
American University School of International Service (SIS) is offering a guaranteed 50% tuition scholarship for current and transitioning federal professionals applying to the Summer and Fall 2025 cohorts of the Master of International Service (MIS) or the Master of Arts in International Relations (MAIR). The scholarship is based on current federal civilian employment. Active-duty military personnel are not eligible for this specific scholarship program but may qualify for military education benefits. Veterans who are currently federal civilian employees or contractors are eligible based on their civilian role.
To verify scholarship eligibility, proof of federal employment or affected status must be included as part of your application addendum. Current federal civilian employees must provide an SF-50 or current federal ID; recently separated federal civilian employees must provide an SF-50 showing separation within the last 12 months; current contractors must provide a valid contract showing federal agency work assignment or a letter from contracting company verifying federal contract work; former contractors must provide documentation of previous contract work with federal agencies and separation notice within the last 12 months.
